coming events at the field. A
week on Sunday, that’s the 28th June is the date for the club
family day. This is a chance for you
to bring the wife, kids. girl friend or better
half along to see what you get up to on a Sunday. There will be food and drinks for all
and hopefully lots of flying. We will start around 12pm. Lets hope the
weather is kind for a change. 26th
July is the date for the club scale
day. The idea is to bring along a
model that is scale like. It can be
built from scratch, a plan, a kit or ARTF.
Points will be awarded for complexity-workmanship-finish-realism
and of course how it looks in flight. There are quite a number of heli flyers in the
club so on the same day I would like to run a simple test comp to see who
is the most consistent heli flyer, We have never
tried this before but it proved quite popular in the The test is split into
3 sections. Novice, intermediate and expert. Either level of flyer could win because
the point system is worked out on a percentage. With accurate flying a novice could
achieve a higher score than an expert. Manoeuvres are as
follows: Novice 1Take off and hover for
5 seconds 2 Fly left 5 meters and
hover for 5 seconds 3 Fly right 10 meters
and hover for 5 seconds 4 Fly left 5 meters and
hover for 5 seconds 5 Land on take off
spot. Each manoeuvre has a
maximum of 20 points – total 100.
The emphasis is on smooth controlled flying. Intermediate does the same as above plus: 6 Take off and hover for 5 seconds 7 Pirouette – either direction 8 Climb to a safe height and fly a circuit
(circular or race track either direction) 9 Return to take of area and hover for 5
seconds. 10 Land on take off spot. Expert Does all
of the above plus: 11 Take off and fly rectangular circuit (either
direction) 12 Stall turn to either side of flying area
(away from the flight line) 13 Inside loop in front of pilot 14 Full normal speed roll centred in front of
pilot 15 Circuit, approach and land on take off spot. As you can see, nothing too difficult. Even I could have a go at the
intermediate and I have not flown a heli for many a year. Just decide which level you are at and have a
go. It will improve your flying and
who knows, you might enjoy it. June 2009
