Hi folks.  Just to keep you up to date with club news and what should be happening over the next few months at the flying field.  Some of you are already aware, but John Corden has set up a club forum on Google.  This can only be accessed by club members and only then if you request to be included.  There is a link on the home page of the club web site.  If you have any problems signing up, contact John at john10hats@googlemail.com and he will talk you through it.

Don’t forget, the first Wednesday of each month during the Summer  is club night at the field.

From The Chair

April already and at last the evenings are extending to be flying time after work – for those of us who look out of the window at work and wish we were somewhere else !!

I am really encouraged that the start to the season has started  with a flurry of action at the field. Firstly those who have been should have noticed the long overdue right hand boundary marker in the form of a 10 metre while flag pole. My thanks to the usual suspect helpers who laboured away to dig the hole and fill it with nearly 40 bags of post mix ! This new addition should now truly make our most sensitive boundary something to stay well clear from to ensure our land agent and is fellow twitches are happy.  When you now fly in that area of the field - if in doubt “turn early.

With extra action at the field, whilst in is welcome it has also seemed to generate some behind the scenes discussion which has the potential to be a little disruptive. The subject in question is that of heli flying on our main strip. Remember we do allow and encourage both  fixed wing and helis on the strip, so as not to split the club atmosphere, but it has been noted that some grumbling seems to be occurring off the strip. Yes there is a separate field and patch for heli hovering but we do allow flying of helis on the main strip using the ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ approach. I think it is potentially a shame if we can not all enjoy our sport together by working it out on the day.

Communication is think can be a key  to a good club atmosphere and thanks to one of our newer members a Google forum has been set up for the club members to share views.  I would like to use this as another  direct link into us your committee. I have set up my profile to receive all postings by email and I will ensure all comments are reviewed prior to each monthly committee meeting. What better way to get your committee talking about issues which you the membership feel important. Have a look on our website for the link and there are also some guidelines in the van how to join.

Finally don’t forget the bring and buy on the 26th April – see you there for some bargains !
