2011 HELI FUN DAY REPORT
On the 26 June 2011 we had our first true heli fun day

The day was set for mixed flying in the morning with rotary flying only after 2pm with the expectation of the fixed wing flyers to join in with the fun, BBQ and try there hand at this rotary flying thing.

Those that did take the opportunity to have a go were rewarded with the excellent tuition of Noel Cross and his "SKIDS N SKILLS" school helicopter with buddy box flying.

All attendees were rewarded by the expert flying of Rob Turnbull and Mat (the splat) of Midland Helicopters both of whom are 3d competition competitors Rob had just returned from European championship where he came a very respectable 6th in Europe

Now that the scene is set the day it self rolled in early for the organisers and volunteers that set the field and prepared the BBQ,
The mist rolled in over the field and slowly burned away to reveal a stunningly prepared strip and pits. By 9:00 the hard work had begun in earnest with the guest pilots arriving around 10 and members eager to take part in the day rolled in through out the morning with the first flight starting on the stroke of 11 the strip was declared open both fixed wing and rotary flyers took to the blue sky’s

All flyers enjoyed the sun and the flying with demo flights by Matt and Rob while they were not flying both gave advice and enjoyed the friendly banter from the pit. The BBQ was lit and once again the volunteers upped the workload with well cooked food coming fast and thick,

as I recall there were no complaints well there was not much said at all every one was too busy eating once the food was gone the flying continued until 6pm we think our guests enjoyed themselves they certainly left with happy smiling faces while those volunteers continued to work clearing the pits putting everything away.

We had a small comp as well one generous member hid a mcpx in the crop and members were invited to go on a heli hunt with Carl’s eagle eyes winning the hunt

So to those unnamed volunteers a big thank you for all that hard work behind the scenes that made the day such a success I for one enjoyed the day and have received nothing but positive feedback from the day here is to the next heli day in 2012

A final mention that one of the last flights of the day was that of a t-rex 700E maiden flight by Rob after casting an experienced eye over it and tweaking a few final settings away she went
